I
wanted to accomplish many goals during the build-up of my Bronco.
A major key point was to make it better and more durable than
it came from the factory. The materials and products available
to us now versus 1979 made this goal easy to accomplish. The
common method to protect the underside of vehicle bodies is
to apply a spray-on undercoating from a spray can. This material
is soft and does not totally protect the body. You were lucky
to even get that, it is usually an option that the dealer would
offer you when you bought a car. Oh and not to mention the killing
they made off of the people who took them up on this offer....$600
option for a few $5 dollar cans of undercoating and some minimum
wage worker squirting it on.
I
decided to get the best possible protection possible. Line-X
spray on bed liner is by far the most durable and best looking
coating out there. It goes on smooth and fills all the gaps
and contours nicely, plus has the best texture than all the
others. I loaded the Bronco body on a trailer and headed down
to a sandblast shop. They blasted all the old gunk and paint
off so the Line-X would have a nice surface to cling to. Then
it was transported to the local Line-X shop, and they sprayed
it from the very back all the way up the firewall. I will also
coat the entire inside floorboard and inner firewall before
I paint. The body will then be permanently protected from rust
FOREVER!
Another
benefit to the Line-X on both side will be the major reduction
in road noise. Anyone who owns one of these Bronco's knows what
the term road noise means for sure.
